Here are some questions we hear in the kitchen.

How much color do I use?

1 color packet per pint for light frosting (1 color packet per ½ pint for more vibrant color).

How do I mix the colors?

Blend color powder with dry ingredients before hydrating. For pre-made frosting, mix color powders directly into frosting or mix with a very small amount of water (approx ¼ tsp liquid to 1 ¼ tsp color to make a paste) for easy blending.

When working with heated recipes, like a gummy candy, mix colors into a liquid first and then add into the cooling phase for maximum color vibrancy.

What are your colors made from?

Our colors are sourced from the finest, most vibrant plant sources available. ColorKitchen colors from nature are made from simple ingredients, containing pigments from turmeric, spirulina, beet, radish, cabbage, and annatto.

Why powder pigments, not liquid colors?

Liquid food colors have a very limited shelf-life and turn brown and fade within months. Our powder food colors have a very long shelf life, and keep a vibrancy that produces excellent, quality color results.

How does the amount in the powder packets compare to liquid food colors?

1 packet (3 grams) is equal to approximately 1 oz. of liquid food coloring.

How are the colors made?

Aqueous extracts of the colors sources are spray-dried onto a carrier (maltodextrin). The aqueous extract removes the taste, smell, and fibers from the colors, leaving pure color pigments.

What if I don't use the whole packet?

No problem, just roll the open end of the packet and close with a paper-clip or rubber-band. The pink should also be kept in a plastic bag to keep them airtight to prevent clumping.

Will the colors work in chocolate?

Our colors work in white melting chocolate. However, the colors will not disperse well in cocoa butter if making your own chocolate.

Allergens

Our products are third-party tested and are GMO and gluten-free. Our maltodextrin is sourced from corn and tapioca.

Is the palm oil in the sprinkles sustainably sourced?

Yes, the palm oil in our sprinkles is RSPO Sustainable Certified.
